How To Repair A Refrigerator Ice Machine

Blog

The ice machine in your refrigerator is something you may be able to live without, but it is a nice convenience to have when you are entertaining, or just when you want ice on demand as well. If your refrigerator ice machine has stopped working, there may be things you can do to get it to work properly again. Read on for helpful information you can use to attempt to make this repair yourself.

Inspec/Change The Water Line

Check the water line to be sure you don't have a kink in the line. If there is a kink in the water line, the water will not be able to travel through the line and into the machine in order to make ice. Inspect the water line to see if there is a kink. If you cannot un-kink the line, remove the water line and install a new one in its place. Remember to turn the water off before you disconnect the line, or you'll have a mess on your hands.

Check The Ice Machine

There's a chance that the ice machine has a piece of ice stuck in it and cannot make or push out any more ice until it's removed. Check the ice maker for ice cubes that may be stuck inside. This can occur if your ice machine is making smaller pieces of ice, which can also happen if you have a kink in your water line. Inspect the ice machine and remove any pieces of ice stuck in it. Then test the machine to see if it is making ice again.

Remove And Replace The Ice Machine

If your ice machine is not working properly, you may just have to replace the ice maker altogether. You can find replacement ice makers at your local appliance supply store, or online. Remove the old ice maker and the water line, then replace it with the new one according to the manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to use the screws and all of the parts that come with the new ice maker —don't reuse the old parts.

If you have an ice maker in your refrigerator that isn't working properly, you may be able to make the repair yourself. If you aren't too handy, you can hire a professional appliance repair technician to do this work for you. Contact a local company to learn more about fridge repair and ask about having a professional come out to your location.
